Acciona has purchased a 104,000m² seven-building office complex on Calle Mesena de Madrid nº 80 from Santander bank in Madrid’s Hortaleza district.
This marks the second large acquisition carried out by the infrastructure and renewable energy multinational owned by the Entrecanales family following their purchase of a period property from Gas Natural on Calle Ombú. The property was the headquarters of Banesto, once the fifth largest banking group in Spain which was absorbed by Banco Santander in 2012 and the buyers plan to convert the buildings into a fully refurbished and environmentally friendly modern office complex
Last year, Acciona sold its 20% stake in Testa Residencial SOCIMI, the largest multi-family housing REIT in the Spanish market and plans to focus on residential development and creating a portfolio of value-add income producing properties.
With this sale, Santander continues with their plan to divest and reallocate their portfolio of real assets, whilst trying to recover the ownership of their global headquarters in Boadilla del Monte after contesting the court decision to sell this complex to the Reuben brothers.
