Goodman to develop logistics facilities in Spain for DSV

Goodman Group is developing a logistics facility for DSV to consolidate its operations in the Barcelona region. The 46,000m² development comprises cross-dock facilities and a multi-storey logistics warehouse, which will be the first two-storey development for Goodman in Spain, with more than ten metres clear height for each level.

In a strategic location, only 15km from the centre of Barcelona, with access to the A-2 and AP-2 highways, this is Goodman’s 8th development in Barcelona, adding to the 105,000m² they have developed over the last 2 years.

DSV Group, an international goods transportation and logistics company, sought a partner capable of accommodating the integration of two of its logistics business areas (DSV Solutions) and transportation (DSV Road) in the same location. Goodman’s solution incorporates the development of two connected buildings: a 14,000m² facility for the transport area and a second 32,000m² multi-storey building for the logistics business.

Brian Winther Almind, Executive Vice President, Group Property for DSV, commented on the project, “Goodman has proven its capability to offer innovative and technically complex solutions that allow us to turn our project into reality. These next-generation facilities provide the flexibility and efficiency we require.

The first facility to be developed by Goodman will be for DSV Road: a 14,000m² which will increase its operational capacity with a built-to-suit cross-dock solution, providing more than 110 docks and one side loading dock, allowing DSV Road 150 daily truck movements. This building is expected to be complete by December 2019. The second development, a multi-storey warehouse for DSV Solutions, is distinctive because of its free height (10.50 metres) and a high range of load capacity (5 t/m²), for each level. The multi-storey facility is scheduled for completion in April 2020.

The project for the DSV Group also includes a large yard area especially designed to support “mega trucks” of up 50 metres, instead of the traditional 32 metres. Both the cross-dock and logistics facilities will be directly connected by the yards at the same level, improving the synergies of both DSV businesses.

According to Ignacio García Cuenca, Country Manager Goodman Spain, “It is a great pleasure to have the chance to develop such a unique project which reaffirms Goodman’s commitment to innovation. The multilevel solution designed by our expert team will allow Grupo DSV to optimise its operations and make the very best use of the space for its logistics needs”.

Goodman has made sustainability a key priority for the project, which will lead to the recovery of over 100,000m² of green space; which Goodman will give back to local authorities for green areas that forms part of the “Collserola Natural Park” in greater Barcelona.

In addition, the buildings will incorporate the building management system to easily control and manage energy, electricity and water consumption in both buildings, energy efficient LED lighting and an e-charging station for cars. On completion, Goodman will apply for the BREEAM Very Good certificate.
